Another Day, Another Crypto Clown Show
So I was scrolling through the r/Cryptocurrency subreddit this morning and stumbled on a thread that just perfectly captures the state of our industry. It's a hilarious mess, but you can't look away.
Here's the lowdown: after a huge crypto conference in Miami, one of the official, sponsored afterparties went down at a high-end strip club called E11EVEN. I'm not kidding. Now, one of the big sponsors, the exchange OKX, is having a meltdown and telling the Financial Times they might pull their money, calling the event "immature" and "borderline discriminatory."
The Reddit Reaction Was Pure Gold
The community on the thread had some thoughts, and honestly, most people were just shrugging. A huge chunk of the comments were basically, "Who cares?" and "You get a bunch of tech nerds together, where did you THINK they were going to go?" A few users chalked it up to "American prudishness" and couldn't see what the big deal was.
But then, a couple of users pointed out the real issue, and it's the key to this whole stupid story. As one user put it, it's totally different for a bunch of guys to go to a strip club on their own time versus it being an officially sponsored event. That's the line. That's where professionalism goes to die.
My Take: This is an Unforced Error
Look, am I surprised this happened? Not at all. Is the sponsor's outrage a little performative? Probably. But this is just a dumb move that makes everyone in crypto look like a joke.
This isn't about being "woke" or trying to cancel fun. It's about basic professionalism. We're all fighting for legitimacy here—for ETFs to get approved, for sensible regulation, for your parents to stop thinking you're buying magic internet money. Then an event that's supposed to represent the best of the industry does something that reinforces every negative "crypto bro" stereotype there is.
It's just bad business. You don't see the big banks hosting their official investor dinners at a strip club. If we want Wall Street's money and Washington's respect, we have to stop acting like a frat house. The tech is world-changing, but the culture is still its own worst enemy. This isn't FUD, it's just a fact.
What's Your Call?
Am I being too harsh, or is this the kind of amateur hour nonsense that holds the entire space back? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
